Wyatt Butterbaugh
Wyatt Butterbaugh was born the 7th of September, 1988 in Hawai'i at Castle Hospital, which is located on the island of Oahu in the city of Kailua. Growing up in Hawai'i within a family and a place widely regarded for its varied racial makeup provided Wyatt with a unique tolerance and understanding of other peoples differences – from skin color to culture and religion. This diversity created a wonderful foundation for seeing and accepting the many differences the rest of the world is made up of.
His Father, Nik Butterbaugh, introduced Wyatt to the Ocean and surfing at the age of 6, but it was really not until age 8 when surfing and the ocean became an obsession. Wyatt's Father is a seasoned traveler, and over the last 6 years has taken Wyatt, his eldest brother Dylan, and Friends (or as he calls them brothers), Taylor Cook, and Wyatt Redongo to a few countries in search of surf. The Countries include Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Indonesia. It seems as though Nik's traveling passion has passed on through to Wyatt, because for the last 3 summers he has spent an average of at least 2 months a year in Indonesia surfing, biking through rice paddies and villages, and traveling to many different islands. This has given him an intimate experience into the Indonesian way of life.
His experiences were further appreciated due to the many months of hard work it took to fund his expeditions. He feels these travel experiences are a window on mankind as a whole. Seeing the daily hardships of the people of these different countries; how most live and how hard they work for so little compensation, has given Wyatt a greater appreciation for his own life and an understanding compassion for those less well off.
While continuing to surf and travel Wyatt is attending college and hoping to use his knowledge, experiences, and compassion to live a life full of selfless gestures. But at the end of the day it all leads back to the wonder that is surfing and the feeling he receives: "Ahhhhhh, the beach, I love riding waves."
